Obviously, we don’t know the details of this yet, but I just want to say I’m surprised this is the first event of its kind on a U.S. Army Base, six years into the Iraq War and nearly a decade into the Afghanistan War. A war lasting that long is corrosive to the society engaged in it.

People are giving Sufjan a hard time for expressing these doubts in the Album format, But really, it’s such a valid point. The way we talk about music - EPs, LPs, Albums, Sides - doesn’t make sense anymore. It’s archaic. Why can’t we talk about movements, songs, compositions, moments?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable that the U.S. stock market’s (relatively) strong performance has almost entirely to do with investments in Asian business and not much to do with American. Strange times we live in.
